West Scranton junior Kailey DeFina was nominated to join other high school students from across the country to participate in the Stanford University Intensive Law and Trial Program at the university campus in California, which took place this past summer. The program lasted for 10 days, from July 25 to August 4, and allowed students the opportunity to pursue their interest in the legal profession by working closely with Stanford law professors and local attorneys. Kailey attended lectures and workshops at the university, and was given the opportunity to work with groups to analyze practice case materials. The mock criminal case was then presented in a series of simulated trials to close the program. The team with which Kailey worked to argue the defense won their competition.

In addition to studying at Stanford, the students in the program were also given the opportunity to travel to prominent locations near the university, such as the San Francisco area.

After participating in the Stanford program, Kailey hopes to continue to pursue her interest in family law.
