West Scranton Senior Selected as a Student Ambassador
This year, sixteen of the finest high school seniors from each of the high schools in Senator John P. Blake’s 22nd Senatorial District were selected to participate in a program as a student ambassador. Schools from Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Monroe Counties were represented. West Scranton High School senior Cara Anzulewicz was among those who earned the honor this year. She was chosen to represent not only her school, but also the entire Scranton School District in the program.
Each student ambassador represented his or her school at one meeting per month at Senator Blake’s office in Scranton. As part of the program, students were given an on-site look at state lawmaking, citizenship, and public service. Students learned about how the government works at all levels, became familiar with current local issues, and were introduced to the rich history of this area. Between the months of December and May, the student ambassadors participated in a schedule of events and presentations with Senator Blake and his staff – including time at the State Capitol – and also competed for college scholarships through the completion of a critical thinking project and presentation.
For participating in this program, West Scranton student ambassador Cara Anzulewicz was honored at a ceremony on Monday, April 21. Cara is a member of the National Honor Society, Tomorrow’s Leaders Today, and the Regional Educational Academy for Careers in Health – Higher Education Initiative. She participates in the Spanish, Latin, and French clubs, SADD, the Red Cross Club, and is a member of the Mock Trial team as well as the varsity track and field team.
