West Scranton Student Athletes Are Valuable Contributors to the SADD Club

Two of West Scranton High School’s outstanding student athletes are also officers of the SADD club.  They were among the students on hand to accept a service award, which was presented to West Scranton’s chapter of the club by the office of the Lackawanna County Drug and Alcohol Treatment Services during the recent Safe Drive Campaign.

Senior Jane Joyce, who is president of the SADD club, is a four-year starter on both the girls’ basketball team and the softball team.  She is also a member of the National Honor Society and is active in the Spanish club, Red Cross club, health club, and the chorus.

Senior Paul Emiliani, SADD club treasurer as well as his class president, is a three-year member of the swim team and a four-year member of the track team.  He is also a member of the National Honor Society and is involved in the drama club.

Upon receiving the award, both students spoke of the activities for which the SADD club received recognition.  They highlighted raising awareness of the dangers of substance abuse within the school and throughout the community, and the described the various community service projects in which the school’s club has participated.
