West Scranton Mock Trial – Round 1
On Tuesday, January 28, West Scranton High School competed in the first round of the annual Mock Trial competition, which is sponsored by the Young Lawyers’ Division of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. During the first round, West Scranton competed against Carbondale Area High School.
During the course of each competition, students act out the roles of lawyers and witnesses in a simulated trial in front of a real judge and a panel of jurists. The 2014 materials presented a case centering on the tragic death of a star student athlete.
West Scranton’s team was coached by Mr. Nicholas Kramer (faculty moderator) and attorney advisor Michael Parker, Esq. Recipients of participation awards during the first round were seniors Kaela Palmiter, who won the Best Advocate Award, and Kaitlyn Tokash, who earned the Best Witness Award. Other members of the team who participated in the January 28 round of competition wereDanielle Rutkowski, Sara Skoritowski, Larissa Kane, and Mollie Murphy.
