Pictured are Mr. Ken Rupp, Valley View High School Technology Education teacher, and senior Drafting student Dylan Catapane. Valley View students participated in both the Northeastern Regional wooden bridge contest and the West Point virtual bridge building competition. At the West Point virtual bridge local competition, Valley View students secured 9 of the top 10 spots. This year, Dylan became the first student from Valley View to advance to the virtual West Point Bridge Design finals.
In local competition, Dylan placed 2nd as a freshmen and 1st as a sophomore, junior, and senior. As a junior, Dylan finished 9th in the National semifinal round, which included over 6,000 participants from around the country. As a senior, Dylan has qualified for the National final round in 4th place, which takes place at West Point
in New York on May 2, 2013. The top six students who make the final round will each receive a laptop computer and the opportunity to win a $5,000 or $10,000 dollar scholarship. Dylan said, Last year, this was a new experience for me and I placed 9th. This year, I was determined to place in the top 5. I had more confidence coming back this year, because I was stronger and more prepared.
Dylan is the son of Donna and Eddie Catapane Clubs: National Honor Society, Leo Club, SADD, Italian Club, Yearbook, Light and Stage crew. Sports: Soccer, Track & Field, and Wrestling
