Ride for a Reason Local college students hit the slopes to raise funds for less fortunate SCRANTON, PA:

Skiers and snowboarders will be able to enjoy a full day of fun at Montage Mountain while helping Friends of the Poor. On Saturday, Feb. 6th , starting at 12:00 noon, Montage will host College SnowJam, a student-led event giving northeastern Pennsylvania university students the opportunity to raise funds for a good cause. The event will offer a full day lift tickets for $20, access to a party deck featuring live music & entertainment, as well as food and drinks specials. The tickets can be purchased online, in advance, for $15. A portion of every ticket sold will benefit the local charity, Friends of the Poor. According to their website, Friends of the Poor’s mission is to ease the burden of living in poverty and enhance the quality of life for all who live in low to moderate income communities. Last year alone, the event raised over $300 for the non-profit, as well as treating over 150 underprivileged children to a sun-filled day at Montage Waterpark. College SnowJam will also feature the “Urban Jam Competition,” calling out to all riders who like to show off their skill on boxes, stairs, rails, and kickers. Competitors will have a chance to win big prizes courtesy of sponsors Bear Creek Ski Shack and Gilson Snowboards. About The Organization: The College SnowJam was founded by friends and Marywood business students Tim Kane and Frank Winger to bring together the students of the various Northeast Pennsylvania universities at one giant multiuniversity snow fest. Kane is an aspiring marketing-management major, and Frank is last year’s TecBridge Business Plan Competition Grand Prize Winner for his safety illumination invention, the LateSkate.
