SCRANTON, PA (June 16, 2015)—Marywood University interior architecture and architecture students in the residential furniture design class, taught by Stephen Garrison, assistant professor of studio art and interior architecture, were able to spend a recent class with Chris Bruning, guest lecturer, presenter, and founder of Groovystuff.
Marywood University interior architecture/architecture students will be participating in “The Groovystuff by Design: Connecting Education with Industry Challenge,” for the summer 2015 academic semester. Students participating in the eco-friendly furniture challenge will debut their final design projects at both the Las Vegas World Market, August 2-6, and at the fall High Point Market in “The University Hall of Innovation & Job Creation,” October 17-22, 2015.
Mr. Bruning is the founder of Groovystuff, a not-for-profit company that represents a breakthrough approach to the nurturing of home furnishings design talent, in partnership with leading U.S. colleges and universities. The Groovystuff Foundation was established in 2010 by Mr. Bruning to improve the competitiveness of consumer products in the U.S., by providing students with job opportunities and presenting professors and students with an invaluable opportunity to network with retailers, designers, manufacturers, suppliers, journalists, and industry professionals at the High Point Market.
The summer semester in residential furniture design at Marywood University focuses on using recycled materials incorporated in furniture design. The work created during the studio will be exhibited in a sponsored booth at the High Point Market in North Carolina this fall. High Point designers, manufacturers, and retailers will judge the attending students’ work. The winning entry will go into production with Groovystuff, and students will be able to earn royalties on their sales.
