MMI students place second in Cedar Crest Biology Olympics
(Freeland, PA – May 5, 2015) – MMI Preparatory School sophomore Anirban Chowdhury and junior William Bower both placed second in the Cedar Crest Biology Olympics.
Chowdhury, the son of Bhaskar and Saumitri Chowdhury of Hazle Township, was second in Ecology. Bower, the son of Dr. Kathy Young of Sugarloaf and Philip Bower of Emmitsburg, Maryland, was the runner-up in Cell Biology.
“The competition was stiff this year but our team turned out good results and had a great time competing,” MMI Biological Sciences instructor Michael Mele said.
A pool of 90 total participants competed in this year’s event. Students participated in various scholastic events that included a scavenger hunt, tests, and trivia. Each year, the Biology Olympics challenges area high school students to demonstrate their knowledge of biology, while encouraging interest in all areas of science. The competition featured group and individual events, and concluded with an “Olympics Awards Ceremony” honoring the top scoring schools.
MMI earned the event’s overall top prize in 2012.
