MMI students place in top four at PA School Press Association Student Journalism State Championships

 

(Freeland, PA – April 3, 2017) – Four MMI Preparatory School students placed in the top four at the Pennsylvania School Press Association Student Journalism State Championships, which were held last month at Penn State University’s University Park campus.

Joshua Narrow and Julia Snyder both won the state championship in their respective categories. Narrow placed first in the Literary Magazine Poetry category, while Snyder topped the field in the Literary Magazine Artwork category. Danielle Pileggi received the State Reserve Champion title for finishing second in the Literary Magazine Artwork category and Chava Kornblatt was fourth in the Yearbook Photo Caption Writing category.

The mission of the Pennsylvania School Press Association is to promote excellence and responsibility in scholastic journalism through developing students who possess sound journalism skills, demonstrate ethical decision making and recognize, uphold, and advocate First Amendment rights through responsible citizenship and informed media consumption.

Joshua Narrow is the son of Howard and Marie Narrow, Hazleton; Danielle Pileggi is the daughter of Daniel and Sandra Pileggi, Albrightsville; Julia Snyder is the daughter of Dr. Christopher and Dr. Jill Snyder, Sugarloaf; and Chava Kornblatt is the daughter of Joseph and Georgia Kornblatt, Kingston. Mrs. Jennifer Novotny serves as the faculty advisor for the competition.
