MMI student takes part in national snowboarding competition

(Freeland, PA – April 7, 2015) – MMI Preparatory School junior Nash Wenner finished 38th in the Junior Men (16-17 year olds) bracket during a competition held Monday, March 30, at the 2015 United States of America Snowboard/Freeski Association (USASA) National Championships in Copper Mountain, Colorado.

Wenner was ranked 19th nationally in his age group in the BoarderCross discipline prior to the championships. He competed against 120 athletes this year and received one of the 55 invitations to the national championships. Last year, Wenner finished 54th out of 180 competitors in the Youth Men (14-15 year olds) at the event.

He is the son of Darren and Tracy Wenner, Lehighton. Wenner competes in the USASA’s Mid-Atlantic region and is a member of the Freeriders team at Blue Mountain Ski Resort, Palmerton.

The United States Amateur Snowboarding Association (USASA) was founded in July 1988 with a $500 donation from Transworld SNOWboarding Magazine. USASA was the first governing body exclusively for competitive grassroots snowboarding. The organizers believed that by forming a national association for snowboard competitors, rules of competition could be standardized, an annual national championship event could be established, and the recreation and fun of the rapidly growing sport could be preserved and flourish.
