MMI Preparatory School senior Zachary Young, the son of Christian and Nicole Young of Freeland, was selected as a Commended Student in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Young is one of approximately 34,000 students nationwide who was recognized for placing among the top 50,000 scorers out of the more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
MMI Head of School D. Scott Wiggins praised Young for his selection as a Commended Student. “I’d like to congratulate Zachary for his selection as a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student. MMI consistently has students receive recognition from the National Merit Scholarship Program as a result of their hard work in our comprehensive and challenging college preparatory curriculum.”
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. Commended Students are named on the basis of a nationally applied Selection Index score that may vary from year to year. Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some of these students do become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
