MMI Preparatory School senior Nicholas Carrato was recently awarded the 2019 Jeff Patterson Scholarship from the Air & Expedited Motor Carriers Association (AEMCA).

The scholarship is presented to a qualified high school senior who plans to pursue a career in logistics. Carrato, the son of Dr. Anthony and Carmine Carrato of Hazleton, plans to attend the Penn State Smeal School of Business to major in logistics and supply chain management.

Carrato was part of a team of students that placed third in the global business category at the recent FBLA Regional Leadership Conference and advanced to the State Leadership Conference.

Ian Conahan, president of Central Air Freight Services, Inc. in Hazleton and the AEMCA secretary, nominated Carrato for the scholarship and presented the award check to him.

The Air and Expedited Motor Carrier Association (AEMCA) is a national trade organization that has represented the interests of the air and expedited freight trucking community for 45 years. AEMCA members offer a variety of important ground transportation services that support and enhance the products made available to the freight forwarding community.

AEMCA’s mission is to provide the framework for member networking, education, and inter-association relations; assist the shipping public and regulatory agencies in understanding the many advantages of using flexible, client-oriented carriers offering a variety of expedited trucking services, and emphasize the role that air and expedited truckers play in performing the many specialized services that are involved in today’s global marketplace.
