MMI receives ExxonMobil grant for science and technology departments
(Freeland, PA – January 9, 2017) – MMI Preparatory School received a $500 grant through the ExxonMobil Foundation that it will use toward its science and technology departments.
MMI was nominated for the grant ExxonMobil Educational Alliance grant by Liberty Petroleum Distributors of New Milford. The grant funds are specifically designated for math or science departments. MMI plans to use the grant money to fund a collaborative project between the Marine Biology and Robotics classes where students are working toward building Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicles (ROVs).
Michael Mele, MMI Science Department Chair said, “We are so appreciative of the support for this cross curriculum project and for the dedication of our alumni and the organizations they represent in helping MMI continue to provide a strong academic program in both science and technology.”
V.K. Singh, a 2004 MMI graduate and vice president of operations for Liberty Petroleum Distributors, visited MMI to present the grant money to the school. This marks the third consecutive year that MMI received this grant to add upgrades to its science and technology departments. “Liberty Petroleum Distributors is proud to partner with ExxonMobil to provide this grant to MMI’s science and technology department,” Singh said. “On behalf of everyone at Liberty Petroleum Distributors, we are honored to play a role in creating the scientists of tomorrow through the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance grant program.”

The ExxonMobil Foundation is the primary philanthropic arm of the Exxon Mobil Corporation in the United States. Liberty Petroleum Distributors and its affiliates are now involved in the operations of more than 22 retail travel centers, gas stations, and quick-service restaurants. Today, Liberty Petroleum Distributors also provides travelers with comfortable and affordable hotel accommodations. On the petroleum end, the company provides retail and wholesale distribution of Exxon, Mobil, and Sunoco branded petroleum products to transportation companies, travel plazas, and gas stations. Its retail services include operating numerous convenience stores, as well as Subway, Burger King, and Tim Horton’s restaurants and tobacco stores throughout Pennsylvania.
