MMI team wins science competition

 

(Freeland, PA – April 10, 2014) – A team of students from MMI Preparatory School won first place in a high school science competition, with another MMI team taking second place.

The students competed in the 2014 Bloomsburg Science Iditarod, sponsored by the science departments of Bloomsburg University. The event consisted of four quiz competitions, with each team having a maximum of four students. Twenty-four teams competed in the quiz rounds for Geosciences, Biology, Physics and Chemistry, with one winning team from each round.

The MMI teams had the highest score for each of the individual rounds. At the end of the four rounds, the MMI teams had the top two scores and so progressed to the super round, competing for first and second place.

The team of Jeffrey Careyva, Claire Sheen, Sarah Moyer and Yusuf Qadri earned first place, while the team of Roger Knittle, Alexander Haber, Jay Solgama and Tristan Gibbons came in second place.

MMI chemistry instructor Laura Petro is the team’s adviser.
