MMI student named winner in chemistry competition
(Freeland, PA – May 1, 2014) – MMI sophomore Jay Solgama was the section winner of a chemistry exam and will be honored for his exceptional score.
Solgama, the son of Paresh and Arti Solgama of Mountaintop, was a winner on Exam A of the American Chemical Society High School Chemistry Competition, sponsored locally by the Susquehanna Valley Chapter of the American Chemical Society. The exam recognizes exceptional accomplishment in high school chemistry.
Solgama, along with MMI chemistry instructor Laura Petro, will be honored at the annual awards banquet at the Links at Hemlock Creek restaurant in Bloomsburg on May 7. With the presentation of various local section awards, the awards banquet recognizes both aspiring and accomplished chemistry professionals in the area who have helped to promote chemistry, the chemical professions and the section.
The high school chemistry exam is open to students in six geographic regions comprising the Susquehanna Valley Chapter, ranging from Scranton to Williamsport. Fewer than 10 percent of high school chemistry students are nominated to take the exam each year.
