MMI students earn German Exam certificates

(Freeland, PA – March 13, 2014) – Students at MMI Preparatory School recently received certificates after taking the National German Exam.

Sarah Moyer earned a gold certificate. Moyer, the daughter of Robert and Susan Moyer of Bowmanstown, scored in the 93rd percentile on the exam. She placed 10th out of 222 of her group taking the exam.

Brendan Drusda, son of Jeffrey and Linda Drusda of Drums, earned a silver certificate. Brian Driscoll, son of John and Susan Driscoll of Hazle Township, and Samanta Cottone, daughter of Nicolino and Milenka Cottone of Hazleton, earned achievement certificates.

The exam is organized by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG). MMI is part of the AATG’s Central Pennsylvania chapter.

As a result of her high score, Moyer is eligible to apply for an award to study in Germany this summer. The AATG-PAD Study Trip Award is sponsored by the AATG and the Pedagogical Exchange Service (PAD), a governmental agency of the Federal Republic of Germany.

This exam is administered each year to nearly 22,000 high school students in the second, third and fourth level of German. The exam, now in its 54th year, provides individual diagnostic feedback, rewards students through an extensive prize program and creates a sense of accomplishment. It includes listening comprehension of a series of spoken questions or statements, several brief interchanges and longer dialogues; questions that test reading and conversational skills, structure and idiomatic forms in context; and assessment of reading comprehension of passages that are about 200 words each. The test, online for the first time this year, also included video sections, apart from the audio and reading comprehension.
