MMI students participate in string festival
(Freeland, PA – March 6, 2014) – Six students from MMI Preparatory School took part in a string festival held at Wilkes University on March 6.
Sixth-grader Molly O’Connell, seventh-grader Elise Hreha and eighth-grade students Angelica Alday, Sydney Karpowich, Chava Kornblatt and Stephanie Zellner were nominated by MMI music director Christine Lizbinski to participate in the string festival for middle-school students. The event is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA).
During the festival, students worked with guest conductor Nathaniel Parker from Marywood University. More than 118 students from more than 15 school districts in PMEA’s District 8 and 9 participated. The musical experience offered students the opportunity to play in an orchestra setting with sixth- to eighth-grade students from schools in the surrounding areas from Wilkes-Barre to Berwick and as far away as the Athens area.
The string festival concluded with a concert that evening at the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center at Wilkes University.
