MMI students inducted into language honor societies

 

(Freeland, PA – March 13, 2014) – MMI Preparatory School held inductions for the Spanish, German and Chinese national honor societies on March 6.

Assistant Head of School Charles Seidel opened the ceremonies and greeted students, parents, family members and friends before the formal candlelight ceremony induction. The guest speaker was Thomas Delaney, who worked for the American government for 34 years, 11 of those living in Central America and South America. He worked with the American embassy in several countries.

New members who distinguished themselves as outstanding Spanish language students were inducted into the Pablo Picasso Chapter of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica (Spanish National Honor Society) by chapter adviser and MMI Spanish teacher Dennis Clarke. The students are Kelsy Donaldson, daughter of Dennis and Kathy Donaldson, White Haven; Alessandra Ortiz, daughter of John and Cynthia Ortiz, Sugarloaf; Andrew Alday, son of Senen Alday and Milagros Azcueta-Alday, Mountaintop; Mikayla Dove, daughter of Eric and Susan Dove, Mountaintop; Edward Herbener, son of Darrin and Tracy Herbener, Freeland; and Jay Solgama, son of Paresh and Arti Solgama, Mountaintop. Chapter officers are President Jeffrey Careyva, Vice President Maria Carrato, Secretary Joseph Yamulla, Treasurer Yusuf Qadri and Historian Alex Drusda.

Students who distinguished themselves as outstanding German language students were inducted into the Simon Faltz Chapter of the German National Honor Society, Delta Epsilon Phi, by chapter adviser and MMI German teacher Gabriela Moustardas. The new inductees were Andreas Boosalis, son of Stella Boosalis, White Haven, and Harry Boosalis, South Canaan; William Bower, son of Kathy Young, Sugarloaf, and Philip Bower, Emmitsburg, Md.; Samanta Cottone, daughter of Nicolino and Milenka Cottone, Hazleton; Brian Driscoll, son of John and Susan Driscoll, Hazle Township; Brendan Drusda, son of Jeffrey and Linda Drusda, Drums; and Sarah Moyer, daughter of Robert and Susan Moyer, Bowmanstown. Officers of the chapter are President Alexis Williams, Vice President Kristen Purcell, Secretary Cassandra Bluth and Treasurer Eric Kabitzke.

New members who distinguished themselves as outstanding Chinese language students were inducted into MMI’s Echoes of Wisdom and Philosophy chapter of the National Chinese Honor Society. Inductees were Tristan Gibbons, son of Russell and Edna Gibbons, Mountaintop; Eleanor Maduro, daughter of Joseph and PollyAnn Maduro, Freeland; Medina Saeed, daughter of Zubeen Saeed, Mountaintop; Emily Seratch, daughter of Frank and Sarah Seratch, Hazleton; Christopher Snyder, son of Christopher and Jill Snyder, Sugarloaf; and Rachel Stanziola, daughter of John and Lauren Stanziola, Sugarloaf. Chapter adviser and MMI Chinese instructor Christina Spencer inducted the students into the honor society. Officers of the chapter are President Mariah Serra, Vice President Stephanie Pudish, Treasurer Sara Lucas and Secretary Sarah Jamack.
