MMI Earns Awards at FBLA National Competition

 

(Freeland, PA – July 11, 2017) – MMI Preparatory School received a first-place award for Local Market Share during the Eastern Region Meeting at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Competition in Anaheim, California. The award is given to the school with the highest percentage of students in a high school involved in FBLA among all the states along the east coast of the United States as well as the island chapters of the Caribbean. This marked the sixth consecutive year that MMI students advanced to the national competition.

Chava Kornblatt, Morgan Long, Allison McGeehan, Jakob Schwabe, Jonathan Smith, Jessica Smith, Julia Snyder and Stephanie Zellner represented MMI at the event. McGeehan finished fourth in the nation in the Insurance Risk Management event.

MMI Social Sciences instructor Katherine Zucco serves as FBLA adviser and MMI Art instructor Lisa Ferry served as the chaperone.

Zucco said, “I am very proud of the performance our students had during the National Leadership Conference and was thrilled with our results.  MMI students have given our school national recognition at this event for the past six years and I am excited to see what is in store for our chapter next year.”

FBLA’s mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. More than 9,600 of America’s best and brightest high school students traveled to Southern California and competed for the opportunity to win more than $170,000 in cash awards. Participants from across the United States and abroad attended the conference to enhance their business skills, expand their networks, and participate in more than 70 business and business-related competitive events.

Chava Kornblatt is the daughter of Joseph and Georgia Kornblatt, Kingston; Morgan Long is the son of David and Theresa Long, Mountaintop; Allison McGeehan is the daughter of Thomas and Sandra McGeehan, Drums; Jakob Schwabe is the son of Marybeth Hayden, Hazle Township, and Scott Schwabe, New York, NY; Jonathan Smith and Jessica Smith are the son and daughter of Jonathan Smith and Beatrice Russo-Smith, White Haven; Jonathan Smith and Jessica Smith are the son and daughter of Jonathan Smith and Beatrice Russo-Smith, White Haven; Julia Snyder is the daughter of Dr. Christopher and Dr. Jill Snyder, Sugarloaf; and Stephanie Zellner is the daughter of Stephen and Theresa Zellner, Drums.
