Marywood University’s Women’s Studies Minor Program to Host Guest Presenter

SCRANTON, PA (November 30, 2015)-Marywood University’s women’s studies minor program will host guest presenter, Shana A. Russell, of Rutgers University, N.J. Ms. Russell will present her research, “Richard Wright’s Native Daughters: Fictional Domestic Workers and the Theorization of Black Women’s Labor,” on Monday, December 7, 2015, at 7 p.m., in the Learning Commons, Room 331-337. This presentation is free and open to the public.

Ms. Russell’s presentation explores the ways in which black domestic workers are imagined and constructed in the fictional work of Richard Wright. Through this lens, we grapple with issues of representation, accountability, and the ways in which identity is shaped.

Ms. Russell is a specialist in American Studies at Rutgers University. Her research centers on the relationship between black women’s labor activism, historical materialism, proletarian literature, and black feminism.
