Marywood University’s Student Veterans Alliance to Host “Tails for Troops” at McDade Park

SCRANTON, PA (March 16, 2015)—Marywood University’s Student Veterans Alliance (SVA) will host its third annual “Operation: Tails for Troops,” at McDade Park, Scranton, to raise money for the non-profit organization, Paws and Stripes. The event will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2015, from 12-4 p.m.

The goal of the event is to raise $10,000 to sponsor four wounded military veterans with post-traumatic stress or traumatic brain injuries, while at the same time rescuing four shelter dogs. There will be homemade dog treats for sale, a K-9 talent and dog pageant, baskets and 50/50 raffles, food and beverages, and additional local vendor sales.

Representatives of Paws and Stripes, New Mexico, will be at the event to answer questions about the non-profit organization that provides service dogs to wounded military veterans with post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injuries. The dogs (rescued from shelters) and the training are provided to the veteran free of charge. The program facilitates healing, assists in building self-confidence in the veterans, helps increase bonds between veterans and the dogs, and provides the tools to maintain the dogs’ training long after graduation.
