On Saturday, April 21, record stores across the country will open their doors to vinyl enthusiasts and celebrate the format during the 11th Annual Record Store Day. In conjunction with Record Store Day, the College Radio Foundation is hosting its 3rd annual Vinylthon, of which Marywood University’s VMFM 91.7 is a participating station.

Tune in to VMFM 91.7 beginning Friday, April 20, at 11p.m. until Sunday, April 22, at 7a.m.,

and hear VMFM’s DJs spinning strictly vinyl. The festivities kick off Friday at 11p.m. with

the produced Vinylthon documentary. Then it’s live DJs in the studio with “two

turntables and a microphone” for the next 31 hours! “Vintage Vinyl” host, Mike Evans,

stays up all night Friday with an eclectic mix of classic rock and alternative. Then, at

7a.m. on Saturday, the student DJs at VM-FM take over for an all-day celebration

of Record Store Day. VM-FM alumni, “Cables” and “Mark the Shark,” keep the Indie Rock

spinning late Saturday afternoon until 9 p.m. Then, it’s a celebration of the 20th

anniversary of the Goo Goo Dolls’ Dizzy up the Girl album, played in its entirety on

vinyl (of course). On Saturday, April 21, at 10 p.m., Mike Evans returns for another all-night session that doesn’t end until Sunday at 7 a.m.

WVMW-FM, VMFM 91.7, is Marywood University’s student-run radio station.

Specializing in an alternative format, VMFM is an award-winning station on-air 24/7 at

91.7 FM, streaming live on its website at vmfm917.org, and streaming online through

the TuneIn app. The studios are located on the terrace level of Marywood University’s

Learning Commons. VMFM 91.7 is a part of the Marywood Media Group, an

organization formed to coordinate activities and offer resource-sharing among all

communication art organizations.

Vinylthon is organized by the people behind the national College Radio Day event each

autumn. The founder of College Radio Day, Dr. Rob Quicke, says “the idea of this

Vinylthon makes sense because college radio is still probably the only remaining

medium that regularly plays music on vinyl.”
