Marywood University’s Nationally Recognized Aphasia Group Raises Community Awareness with Fundraiser
SCRANTON, PA (July 22, 2015)-Marywood University’s nationally recognized Aphasia Group recently hosted its first fundraiser at Yogurt City to raise awareness in the community about aphasia and strokes. Marywood’s Aphasia Group donated the proceeds to the National Stroke Association.
“It is so gratifying to be able to not only promote education/awareness about aphasia and strokes to our community, but to give to an Association that is trusted for providing free resources and programs for the entire stroke community nationally,” said Marla Kovatch, M.A., CCC-SLP, clinical supervisor at Marywood University.
The Aphasia Group at Marywood University merited a national award as the 2014 Outstanding Support Group from the National Stroke Association, which annually recognizes individuals and groups for taking stroke awareness activities to new heights.
The National Stroke Association’s mission is to reduce the incidence and impact of stroke, by developing compelling education and programs focused on prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and support for all impacted by stroke.
