Super Students
Shari Lynn Landy
Marywood University undergraduate student Shari Lynn Landy, Scranton, was recently awarded the Creative Writing and Work Award during the Women In History Month celebration at the university.
Ms. Landy is a senior with an ad hoc major in English, history, and religion. Ad hoc majors are tailored to meet a student’s unique educational objective by combining studies in several areas.
Ms. Landy took first prize for her paper “Sacred Dancers,” which explores the devadasi tradition in India across different time periods. Devadasi is a community of women who dedicate themselves to the service of the patron god of the great temples in eastern and southern India.
As she looks forward to graduation in May, Ms. Landy plans on pursuing a graduate degree at Gratz College in Philadelphia, Pa., in the fall.
