Marywood University to Present Tuba Christmas
SCRANTON, PA (October 30, 2017)—Marywood University’s music, theatre, and dance department will present Tuba Christmas on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at 6:30 p.m., at the Viewmont Mall, 100 Viewmont Mall, Scranton, Pa. The performance is free and open to the public.
Tuba Christmas is directed and conducted by Michael Parker, B.M., lecturer in the music, theatre, and dance department at Marywood University. Tuba and euphonium players of all ages and abilities are welcome to perform. Registration for the performance will take place at 3 p.m., with a rehearsal at 4 p.m., at the Sette LaVerghetta Center for Performing Arts, on the University’s campus. There is a $10 registration fee to perform, which will benefit The Harvey Phillips Foundation.
Tuba Christmas is celebrating its 44th annual anniversary. Concerts are presented in nearly 300 cities throughout the United States and in foreign countries. Monies raised from Tuba Christmas help support the Harvey Phillips Foundation, which provides scholarships to high school students in their pursuit of furthering their academic interests in college. Harvey Phillips was inspired to create Tuba Christmas as an annual event honoring his mentor and teacher, the late, great tubist, William J. Bell.
