Marywood University to Observe Veterans Day with Flags for the Fallen
SCRANTON, PA (October 21, 2015)-Marywood University’s Office of Military and Veteran Services and the Student Veteran Alliance (SVA) will lead activities to honor those who are serving and those who have served our country on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at 11:05 a.m., at the Marywood Veterans Resource Center, 2236 N. Washington Avenue, Scranton, Pa., on the university’s campus.
Marywood Cadets from the University of Scranton Royal Warrior Battalion will provide the Color Guard, and Marywood trumpeters will play “Echo TAPS,” surrounding the more than 6,800 flags, which represent fallen troops from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. A National Moment of Silence will take place at 11:11 a.m. This event is free and open to the public. The Field of Flags will be on display from November 9 through November 13, 2015.
“Many of our students probably know someone who has served or will be serving,” said Joel Lesh, president of the SVA. “We want the Marywood community and the public to give pause and feel an intimate connection with those service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice.”
