Marywood University to Host Professional Continuing Education Program on Domestic Violence and Trauma

 

SCRANTON, PA (May 25, 2016)—Marywood University’s professional continuing education department will host a program titled, “He Doesn’t Vanish – The Pre- and Post-Separation Needs of Abused Women and Their Children,” on Thursday, June 9, 2016, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Latour Room, in the Nazareth Student Center.

 

The program is for professionals who work with and on behalf of women and children who are often faced with addressing the violence and trauma endured in a relationship characterized by domestic violence. This is a distinctive, eye-opening program for social workers, certified addiction counselors, attorneys, law enforcement, probation/parole agents, case workers, advocates and other professionals who want to learn more about pre- and post-separation violence in families.

 

Lundy Bancroft, author of five books in the field of domestic violence, will be the presenter at the program. Bancroft is also the former co-director of Emerge, the nation’s first counseling program for men who batter, and he was involved in over 2,000 cases as a counselor and clinical supervisor. He has also served extensively as a custody evaluator, child abuse investigator, and expert witness.

 

The program provides (6) continuing education hours for social workers applicable toward Pa., N.Y., and N.J., LSW licensure renewal; (6) professional development ACT 48 hours for educators; (6) hours of PCB approved education for Addictions Counselors, Prevention Specialists, and Certified Case Managers; and 4.5 substantive credits and 1.5 ethics credits by the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board for lawyers.

 

The program fee is:  $100, if registered before June 2, 2016, and $120, if registered after June 2, 2016. The fee includes all materials, morning refreshments, and lunch.
