Marywood University to Host “Heroin Hits Home” Presentation

SCRANTON, PA (January 19, 2017)—Marywood University to host “Heroin Hits Home” presentation, an initiative of the District Attorney’s Office, on Monday, January 30, 2017, from 6-9 p.m., in the Latour Room, in the Nazareth Student Center. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Shane Scanlon, district attorney for Lackawanna County, and Joseph Kane, L.S.W., clinical administrator at Clearbrook Treatment Centers, will facilitate the presentation at Marywood University.

In 2015, there were 69 overdose deaths in Lackawanna County. According to the District Attorney’s website, that’s 34 more than the year before. The reality is that people are dying every single day right here in Lackawanna County. Heroin deaths have become a public health crisis, with the Centers for Disease Control ranking Pennsylvania the third highest in the nation.

“Through the collaboration among law enforcement, the medical community, school districts, treatment facilities, neighborhood groups, and everyday citizens, we will be able to make an impact,” said District Attorney Scanlon.
