Marywood University Recognized by Society of Collegiate Journalists at National Contest
SCRANTON, PA (May 6, 2016)—Marywood University’s Chapter of the Society for Collegiate Journalists (SCJ) took home ten awards and four honorable mentions in the national contest for the students’ work at The Wood Word, Marywood University’s student-run newspaper, and TV-Marywood, the campus television station.
First place winners include: Alex Weidner, East Greenville, Pa.; Paul Capoccia, Dunmore, Pa.; Amanda Duncklee, Seaford, N.Y.; and the staff editorial. Second place winners include: Brigid Edmunds, Archbald, Pa.; Rachel Looker, Blandon, Pa.; Anne Zukowski, Wantage, N.J.; Jessica Bonacci, Dickson City, Pa.; and the Companion Newspaper Website, www.thewoodword.org. Third place winners include: Satara Dickey, Scranton, Pa.; Paul Capoccia, Dunmore, Pa.; Amanda Duncklee, Seaford, N.Y.; and Alex Weidner, East Greenville, Pa. Honorable mention awards were given to: Katlynn Whitaker, Apalachin, N.Y.; Alex Weidner, East Greenville, Pa.; Evan Felser, McLean, Va.; Paul Capoccia, Dunmore, Pa.; and John Ferraro, Dickson City, Pa.
Marywood senior student, Brigid Grace Edmunds, 2015/2016 chapter president, was awarded the SCJ Medal of Merit. Ms. Edmunds also served as the news editor at The Wood Word and news director at TV-Marywood.
Senior students Satara Dickey and Patrick Kernan were awarded the SCJ Certificates of Merit. Ms. Dickey served for the past year as the editor-in-chief at The Wood Word. Mr. Kernan served for the past year as managing editor of The Wood Word.
The Society for Collegiate Journalists is a National Society of Collegiate Mass Communications. It is the nation’s oldest organization designed solely to serve college media leaders. Today SCJ has approximately 100 active chapters nationwide and more than 1,200 members.
