Marywood University Professor Receives Recognition from U.S. Professors of the Year
Scranton, PA (January 27, 2016)—Kielty Turner, DSW, assistant professor in the School of Social Work at Marywood University, recently received a certificate of recognition from the U.S. Professors of the Year.
The certificate, signed by Anthony S. Bryk, president of The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and Sue Cunningham, president of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, states that the recognition celebrates the extraordinary dedication to undergraduate teaching at higher education institutions in the United States. The certificate further states that Dr. Turner’s nomination is a tribute to years of excellent teaching and brings honor to Marywood University, as a demonstration of her passion for educating, a commitment to her students, and innovative instructional methods that inspire and motivate others.
Dr. Turner earned her master’s degree in social work from Adelphi University, her master’s degree in clinical/counseling psychology from Marist College, and her doctoral degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice.
Dr. Turner was appointed director of the bachelor of social work program at Marywood University in 2014. She is co-chairing the reaffirmation of accreditation process for the bachelor of social work program, which has been accredited by the Council on Social Work Education for the last 40 years.
In addition to her duties as an assistant professor in the School of Social Work, Dr. Turner is an advisor to the bachelor of social work student association—the Caritas Club. This club provides a forum through which social work majors can broaden and enrich their knowledge base, as it relates to social work education and practice. She also served as a faculty adviser for an alternative service trip to Guatemala in May 2014.
