Jay Solgama wins Wilkes University scholarship in LCCTM math contest
(Freeland, PA – May 26, 2015) – MMI junior Jay Solgama won first place in the individual competition and joined classmates Brendan Drusda and Sarah Moyer to capture the top prize in the team event at the 67th annual Luzerne County Council of Teachers of Mathematics (LCCTM) Contest, which was held recently at Wilkes University.
Solgama, the son of Paresh and Arti Solgama of Mountaintop, won a full scholarship to Wilkes University that may be used for any degree or program. Moyer is the daughter of Robert and Susan Moyer, Bowmanstown, and Drusda is the son of Jeffrey and Linda Drusa, Drums.
More than 140 students from 11 schools throughout Luzerne County, as well as the Tunkhannock Area School District, participated in the event. Each student must be nominated to compete by their high school’s mathematics department.
The contest is held in conjunction with Wilkes University and features individual and team competitions in senior and junior divisions. The first-place individuals in both divisions each won a full scholarship to Wilkes University. MMI’s first place team members also received a prize.
