Holiday Music-Traditional and Contemporary-Highlight December Performances at Marywood University

SCRANTON, PA (November 17, 2015)-Marywood University’s music, theatre, and dance department announces its December performances. The performances are free and open to the public and include:

  •   Guitar Christmas Concert, Friday, December 4, 2015, at 7:30 p.m., in the Marian Chapel in the Swartz Center for Spiritual Life. The program will consist of Christmas and other holiday favorites, as well as some little-known works, all fresh and creative arrangements for multiple guitars.

 

  •   Junior Wind Band Celebration on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at 7 p.m., on the main stage in the Sette LaVerghetta Center for Performing Arts.

 

  •   Chamber Singers Mid-Winter Songs on Sunday, December 6, 2015, at 2 p.m., in the Marian Chapel in the Swartz Center for Spiritual Life. Marywood University’s Chamber Singers will perform two contemporary works appropriate to the season, Morten Lauridsen’s dramatic Mid-Winter Songs and Francis Poulenc’s ethereal Un soir de neige [A Night of Snow]. The concert will also include carols and other lighter music.

 

  •   An Afternoon of Strings on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at 3:30 p.m., in the Marian Chapel in the Swartz Center for Spiritual Life. This string instrument performance will feature students performing solo and chamber music.

 

  •   Marywood Wind Ensemble on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at 6 p.m., at the Little Sisters of the Poor Holy Family Residence, 2500 Adams Avenue, Scranton, Pa.

 

  •   String Project’s Holiday Concert on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at 6:30 p.m., on the main stage of the Sette LaVerghetta Center for Performing Arts. Performances will include various orchestras, ensembles, and solos featuring students ages 4-18.
