Congressional Representative to Lecture at Marywood University

SCRANTON, PA (November 12, 2015)-Marywood University’s Health and Environmental class will host guest lecturer, Congressman Matthew Cartwright, Representative for Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District, on Friday, November 20, 2015, at the Center for Natural and Health Sciences, in the Comerford Theatre, Room 126, at 2 p.m. This lecture is free and open to the public.

Marywood University’s Environmental Health students will present excerpts from four position papers on environmental issues. In response, Mr. Cartwright will inform attendees on the political reality of addressing those environmental issues in Congress. The lecture will provide the attendees with the opportunity to understand the workings of our government and the balance needed between environment, societal, and political issues.

The Environmental Health class at Marywood University examines the effect of pollutant and naturally occurring toxins on the environment and human health. Discussion includes routes of exposure from diet to major environmental concerns. Terminology and an examination of the current political debates on the environment are explored.
