Happy International Tuba Day!

As advertisers of musical instruments, we’re more than happy to observe any holiday that salutes musicians. Since it’s the first Friday of May, we tip our hats to the tuba players of the world. Kudos, tuba people!

When you think of the tuba, you likely remember it as the backbone of all that oom-pah-pah music that turns up at events like Oktoberfest; indeed, it’s probably the most famous example of the tuba’s distinctive toot. But tubas have played a pretty major role in music since its invention in 1835. Composer Richard Wagner was a huge proponent of the tuba and included it prominently in his music. And tubas were used by early jazz bands to replace the string bass; the hearty tuba was far more able to hold it own despite the varied weather conditions at outdoor venues.
