Marywood University to Conduct Emergency Drill Simulating Life Threatening Attack
SCRANTON, PA (December 8, 2017) — On Monday, December 18, beginning at approximately 11:30 a.m., Marywood University, along with local law enforcement officials, will be conducting an emergency drill to simulate a life-threatening attack on the Marywood campus. The drill will take place in and around the Learning Commons, which is located at the center of the campus, behind the Marywood Arch on Adams Avenue.
In the wake of the recent wave of tragedies, Marywood University and members of local law enforcement agencies saw the need to proactively ensure campus-wide preparedness to react quickly and effectively in the event of a real threat on campus.
Although the drill will be confined to the Marywood Campus, the exercise will include testing of on-campus and police emergency response, as well as the University’s mobile messaging and public address systems. The public address system can be heard over a 1-mile radius of Marywood University. The scenario will also involve regional emergency responders, university security, university administrators, and student volunteers.
While activity may occur any time between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2017, the drill will be conducted between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Due to the nature of this drill, Marywood University asks the community surrounding the campus to respect the space needed by local law enforcement, emergency responders, and Marywood University Safety Officers. In the interest of public safety, members of the community are asked to avoid the 2000 block of Adams Avenue during this one-hour drill.
